Kenneth Imasuagbon Resigns From Labour Party In Edo

Kenneth Imasuagbon, a former governorship aspirant under the Labour Party in Edo State, has announced his resignation from the party.

In his resignation letter, dated Wednesday, December 4, 2024, Imasuagbon addressed the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, with a copy sent to the Ward 2 Chairman in Ewohimi, Esan South-East Local Government Area.

Imasuagbon, who has previously been a member of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that he could no longer stay in a party plagued by deep divisions and a lack of internal democracy.

He expressed disappointment that the Labour Party had strayed from its core values and principles, making it incapable of offering a credible and purposeful alternative to Nigerians.

As a dedicated Nigerian and Edo State citizen, Imasuagbon highlighted his 25-year commitment to leadership development and philanthropy, supporting the needy throughout the years.

He concluded that it was time for him to distance himself from the confusion and authoritarianism within the party’s leadership.

He said, “I am using this medium to announce my resignation from the Labour Party. Having consulted widely with my teeming supporters across the state, it is only expedient for me and my followers to make this decision.

“It is quite clear that the Labour Party has not learnt any lessons and is evidently not ready to entrench purposeful leadership at all levels. Intra-party squabbles and power struggles are creating a toxic environment, making it difficult for members to remain committed.

“What we have witnessed, in my opinion, is poor leadership, ineffective management, lack of vision, and autocratic decision-making. A critical look at the party today reveals that many notable leaders who founded it have already left.”

It is worth noting that Imasuagbon lost the Labour Party’s governorship ticket to Olumide Akpata, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, ahead of the 2024 governorship election. In that election, the Labour Party finished in a distant third place.
