On Friday morning, security operatives blocked the entrance to the Emir’s Palace in Kano, preventing Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II from attending a royal event in Bichi Local Government Area.
An online newspaper, News Point Nigeria, cited a source within the Kano Emirate who confirmed that Emir Sanusi II was scheduled to attend a ceremony to present the staff of office to the new District Head of Bichi.

However, the source stated that heavily armed security operatives instructed Emir Sanusi II to remain indoors, while armored personnel carriers (APCs) were stationed at the entrance of the palace.
“The Emir has been on the phone and is trying to find out what is going on,” the source was quoted as saying.
Another source within the Kano State government informed the newspaper that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf sent a delegation to the palace, but they were also blocked from entering by the security operatives.
Additionally, the venue of the event that Emir Sanusi II was scheduled to attend in Bichi has been cordoned off by security forces.
