In a statement released on Thursday, signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Benson Upah, the NLC expressed concern over an “illegal break-in and entry” into its Edo State Council offices by police officers from the Edo State Police Command.
The incident reportedly took place in Benin City while the Chairperson of the Edo State Council was attending the annual NLC Harmattan School in Abuja.

The NLC pointed out that no explanation had been given by the police or any other party regarding the break-in.
However, there were speculations that the police action might have been ordered by the newly inaugurated Governor, Monday Okpebholo.
Upah stressed that, regardless of whether the police acted independently or under the Governor’s orders, the NLC demands a full apology and corrective measures.
He also reminded that trade unions are legally protected and must not be interfered with by the state or any other authority.
