Tinubu Orders Release Of Funds For Payment Of Pension Arrears To Military Veterans

President Bola Tinubu has directed the release of funds to settle pension arrears, salary increases, and other entitlements owed to retired military personnel, following two days of peaceful protests at the Federal Ministry of Finance by military veterans.

Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, announced the development on Friday, expressing gratitude to the President for his swift response.

Matawalle praised Tinubu for ensuring the prompt disbursement of a three-month salary increase and the release of funds to clear pension arrears and other outstanding entitlements for retired military personnel.

In a statement from the Ministry of Defence’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Henshaw Ogubike, the minister confirmed that military personnel had already received payment alerts for the salary increases.

The Minister also commended President Tinubu for his continued commitment to the welfare of both active and retired military personnel, stressing that the administration remains focused on resolving outstanding pension issues to improve the living standards of those who have served the nation.

Matawalle further acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for his role in ensuring the successful disbursement of the funds.

He urged the Nigerian military to remain resolute in their duties, reassuring them of the President’s determination to boost morale and provide necessary support in addressing the nation’s security challenges.

“Despite initial setbacks, be assured that Mr. President is committed to uplifting our military forces as they tackle insecurity,” he said.

Highlighting the crucial role of the Nigerian military in combating insurgency, terrorism, and other criminal activities, Matawalle reaffirmed the government’s dedication to eradicating insecurity.

He concluded by assuring the Armed Forces of President Tinubu’s unwavering support and commitment to enhancing their readiness and resilience in safeguarding the nation.
