Earlier on Saturday, the club released two updates on Antonio’s condition, stating he was conscious and able to communicate after unverified images of a heavily damaged Ferrari began circulating online.
Essex Fire Service also confirmed that emergency crews had attended the scene and rescued a man trapped in his car.
Several Premier League clubs and players have expressed their support for Antonio during this challenging time.
“Everyone at the club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and is deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown by the football community since the news broke,” West Ham’s statement continued. “We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the emergency services and first responders who helped Michail in the immediate aftermath of the accident, as well as to the medical team assisting with his recovery.”
The London-born Jamaica international has been with West Ham since 2015, scoring 83 goals in 323 appearances for the club. This season, he has netted once in 15 appearances, during a 4-1 home win against Ipswich in early October. Antonio was part of the team that won the Europa Conference League in 2023.
