Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON Winner Brown Ideye Joins Enyimba

Brown Ideye, the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2013 winner, has completed a move to Enyimba, the nine-time Nigerian Premier Football League champions, on a deal running until the end of the current season for an undisclosed fee.

Enyimba’s Sporting Director and former Super Eagles forward, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, confirmed that Ideye will play for the People’s Elephant.

“We have been discussing with him for several weeks and he agreed to play for us. We are very happy to have a legend in our club” Enyimba said

“Ideye will be with us until the end of this season and we believe he will strengthen our team’s attack as we compete in the league and the continent.”

Ideye has been without a club since departing Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022, but he is now poised to return to Nigeria’s top flight.

This follows in the footsteps of former Super Eagles teammates Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu, who are currently with Kano Pillars in the Nigerian Premier League.

This move also marks Ideye’s return to the domestic scene 17 years after he left Ocean Boys in 2007.

The 36-year-old had a successful spell with Ocean Boys in 2006, securing both the league title and cup.

In October, he nearly joined former league champions Rivers United, but the deal fell through.

Enyimba faces two crucial matches in the coming days that will be vital for both their domestic and continental ambitions.

First, they play Sunshine Stars in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League game on Wednesday, followed by a trip to Maputo, Mozambique, for their third group game in the CAF Confederation Cup against Black Bulls.
