Rebels Set Tomb of President Assad’s Father On fire

The tomb of former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad’s father, Hafez, was set on fire in his hometown of Qardaha, as shown in AFP footage from Wednesday.

The video depicted rebel fighters in military fatigues and local young men watching the mausoleum burn.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the rebels were responsible for the fire, which destroyed parts of the mausoleum located in Latakia, the stronghold of Assad’s Alawite community.

The footage showed significant damage and flames engulfing the structure.
