Donald Trump Named Time Magazine’s Person Of The Year

Donald Trump has been named Time magazine’s Person of the Year.

The U.S. president-elect triumphed over other notable figures on the shortlist, including the Princess of Wales and Elon Musk.

Mr. Trump, who has survived two assassination attempts in recent months, will mark the occasion by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange later today.

Following his victory in last month’s election, where he won the popular vote and claimed all seven swing states, Mr. Trump has been busy making appointments for his upcoming administration.

This is not his first Person of the Year title; he was also honored in 2016, the year he first won the presidency.

Time described his second election victory as “history-making in multiple ways.”

At 78 years and seven months, Mr. Trump will become the oldest president in U.S. history when he enters office for the second time, surpassing Joe Biden, who began his term in 2021 at 78 years and two months.

Mr. Trump will also be the first convicted felon ever elected president, in reference to his conviction for falsifying business records to facilitate election fraud.

The Princess of Wales, who is undergoing cancer treatment, has sparked important conversations around privacy and health for public figures, according to Time.

She has since returned to her public duties, including attending her annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey with her family.

Elon Musk, the billionaire behind Tesla and SpaceX, has long been recognized as an innovative disruptor, and Time also acknowledged his growing political involvement.

Musk has supported Mr. Trump’s effort to remain in office and spent over a quarter of a billion dollars on the cause.

Other notable figures on the shortlist included Yulia Navalnaya, whose husband, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, passed away in February; Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; podcaster Joe Rogan; and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
