An Edo State High Court in Benin has ruled for the reinstatement of the 18 local government chairmen and vice chairmen who were previously suspended.
The ruling was made by Justice Efe Ikponmwonba, following a suit filed by the affected officials.

The court also issued an order barring Governor Monday Okpebholo, the Edo State Government, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Accountant General, and other relevant authorities from acting on the state House of Assembly’s resolution that had suspended the claimants.
Additionally, Justice Ikponmwonba directed that the status quo as of December 12, 2024, be maintained until the hearing and determination of the motion filed on the same date.
“The Court orders a mandatory injunction compelling the defendant by themselves, their privies, servants, agents, howsoever named or described, to restore the chairmen and vice chairmen of the of their respective Local government councils,” the judge said.
The judge adjourned the case until February 17 for hearing and directed that a hearing notice be issued and served on the defendants.
