Manchester City Vs Everton Full Time Match Report

The reigning Premier League champions, who have won the last four league titles, have now triumphed just once in their last 13 games across all competitions.

Bernardo Silva gave City an early lead, but Iliman Ndiaye equalized for Everton to secure a hard-fought point for the visitors.

City moved up to sixth but could end the day five points behind the top four. Everton, with their draw, are now five points clear of the relegation zone in 15th place.

Ahead of the match, City manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged the risk of his side failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 15 years.

The top four teams automatically qualify for Europe’s premier club competition, though fifth place could also be enough this season due to the strong performance of English teams in European competitions.

Guardiola said, “The one team that has been in the Champions League for the past years has been Manchester City. Now we are at risk, of course we are. Definitely.”

As has become a troubling trend for City, they were unable to capitalize on a strong start. Josko Gvardiol’s header from a corner hit the post inside the opening three minutes.

Despite Everton’s solid defensive record, City took the lead after 14 minutes. Jeremy Doku set up Silva, whose shot deflected off Jarrad Branthwaite and looped past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Silva later squandered a great chance to double City’s lead, attempting a tricky finish with the outside of his left boot, which flew wide when he only had Pickford to beat. Guardiola looked on in disbelief as the opportunity slipped away.

Manuel Akanji then made a costly mistake, slicing a clearance into the path of Ndiaye, who controlled the ball before firing a superb shot into the top corner for Everton’s first away goal in over two months.

City pushed for a second after the break, with Pickford denying Savinho’s low shot and Mateo Kovacic firing just wide.

But the game took another twist seven minutes into the second half when Savinho was fouled in the box by Vitaliy Mykolenko, who avoided a second yellow card.

Haaland had the chance to end his lengthy goal drought at the Etihad, but his penalty was poorly executed, and Pickford saved it low to his right. Haaland then headed in the rebound from Gvardiol’s assist, but the goal was ruled offside.

Haaland has scored just once in his last seven matches and hasn’t found the net in his last four.

Guardiola admitted that Haaland’s goal drought alone didn’t explain City’s struggles, but their over-reliance on the Norwegian striker is clearly a factor in their current form. Haaland has played the full 90 minutes in every Premier League match this season.

It could have been worse for City in stoppage time when Everton had a golden opportunity to steal all three points.

Jack Harrison’s shot was blocked after a four-on-two counter-attack went to waste, leaving the scoreline level at 1-1.
