Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, has responded to allegations of ethnic favoritism in President Bola Tinubu’s appointments made by Farooq Kperogi, a Nigerian professor of journalism based in the United States.
In an article titled “Tinubu’s Buharisation of the NNPC,” Kperogi accused President Tinubu of appointing predominantly Yoruba individuals to key positions within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
He cited an anonymous source claiming that Bayo Ojulari is being proposed as the next Group Managing Director (GMD) of the NNPCL after Mele Kyari’s term ends.

Kperogi also referenced his previous criticism of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tendency to make appointments that favored the North.
In his reaction on X, El-Rufai stated that two wrongs do not make a right, referencing Buhari’s northern bias in appointments.
The former governor emphasized the importance of sensible inclusion, advocating against what he described as arrogant exclusion.
“Two wrongs do not make a right. Sensible inclusion always trumps arrogant exclusion,” he said.
