Buhari Wasn’t A Visionary Leader – Former Aide

Babafemi Ojudu, a former special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on political matters, has criticized the ex-president for lacking vision as a leader.

He attributed Buhari’s failure to support former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s presidential bid to this absence of vision.

Ojudu made these remarks during an appearance on the State Affairs podcast, hosted by Edmund Obilo, on Monday.

Despite his criticism, he described Buhari as a patriot and an incorruptible leader.

When asked why Mr Buhari didn’t back Mr. Osinbajo for the presidency, the former presidential aide said,: “I think Buhari wasn’t a visionary. I was a very big admirer of Buhari because of what I saw in his first term and because of his attitude, pattern, and lifestyle.

“But coming up close, I didn’t see much of vision; it’s unfortunate I’m saying [this]. He is a patriot of Nigeria, and he’s incorruptible. Take it from me, his needs are few.

“Those are good qualities, but they are not enough when you are a leader. You have to design good vision, and that’s what makes us celebrate Awolowo today; he was a visionary.”

Mr. Ojudu further stated that the country lost an opportunity to produce another Obafemi Awolowo in Yemi Osinbajo.
