Former Secretary to the Government of Kwara State, Alhaji Saka Abimbola Isau, Dies at 69
Alhaji Saka Abimbola Isau, a former Secretary to the Government of Kwara State (SSG) and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has passed away.
He died on Saturday at an undisclosed hospital in Adewole, Ilorin, after a brief illness. He was 69 years old.
Isau, a prominent figure in Kwara State’s political landscape and a key chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was a close ally of former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki.

During Saraki’s tenure, Isau served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, where he was widely respected for his legal acumen and public service.
A day before his passing, on Friday, Isau was reportedly in good health and actively participated in a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Ilorin Juma’at Mosque Central Working Committee.
While the exact cause of his death remains unclear, sources close to him indicated that he had been managing diabetes and high blood pressure for some time.

Isau, who was preparing to mark his 70th birthday in March, leaves behind a wife and four children, one of whom is also a lawyer.
His burial is scheduled for Sunday, with a Janazah prayer to be held at his family residence in Gaa Aremu, Ilorin.
Known as a steadfast loyalist of the Saraki political dynasty, Isau was a highly influential figure in both the legal and political spheres in Kwara. In 2019, he sought the PDP gubernatorial ticket but withdrew in favor of former House of Representatives member Razak Atunwa.
His sudden passing has deeply shocked the state, with an outpouring of tributes from political associates and residents, many of whom remember him as a distinguished lawyer, dedicated public servant, and a pillar of the Saraki political family.
In a statement issued on Saturday night, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq expressed condolences to the family and associates of the late Isau.
He praised the deceased for his invaluable contributions to Kwara State, particularly as former SSG and Attorney-General, and prayed for his eternal peace in Al-Jannah Firdaus.

The Speaker of the 8th Kwara State House of Assembly, Prof. Ali Ahmad, also paid tribute to Isau, describing him as a strong pillar in both the legal and political communities.
Prof Ahmad expressed sadness over the passing, adding that the PDP, Adewole community and the legal profession would greatly miss Isau’s leadership, scholarship and contributions.
“We have lost a renowned son and reputable arbitrator in the late Alhaji Saka Isau,” he stated.
He prayed to Allah to accept the return of the late PDP chieftain and grant him a place among the inhabitants of Al-Jannat al-Firdaus.
