The oath of office was administered by Ghana’s Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, at the ceremony.

Mahama, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was elected in December’s poll, marking his return to the presidency after a seven-year hiatus. His main priority is to address the country’s struggling economy.

Mahama won the election with 50% of the vote, securing 6.3 million votes, and defeating his rival, Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), by a margin of 1.7 million votes.

Bawumia conceded defeat shortly after the results were announced, stating in a press conference, “The people of Ghana have spoken, the people have voted for change at this time and we respect it with all humility.”

Mahama later confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that he had received a congratulatory call from Bawumia.

He previously served as president of Ghana from 2012 to 2016.
