Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani has highlighted five factors that can lead to the impeachment of a speaker of a state House of assembly.
Sani’s list is coming as reports that the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly has been impeached surfaced.
Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly voted to impeach Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over multiple allegations of statutory and financial misconduct.
Obasa has been replaced by his deputy, Mojisola Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1. Meranda, a former Chief Whip of the House, now assumes the role of Speaker.

Mojeed Fatai has been appointed as the new Deputy Speaker.
Obasa has faced mounting controversy, particularly regarding his financial dealings.
His removal follows accusations that he allegedly spent N17 billion on a gate project leading to the Assembly just a month ago.
Sani took to popular social media platform X to list five factors that can lead to the impeachment of the speaker of House of Assembly.

1.When there is a strong suspicion that the Speaker is plotting impeachment.
2.When the Speaker is becoming too independent and resist taking orders from the Governor.
3.When the speaker is not “taking good care” of members and leaving them “hungry”.
4.When the Speaker is deliberately delaying or obstructing the passage of Governor’s interested Bills.
5.When the speaker is strongly accused of colluding with enemies of the Governor.
