Why Africa Should Not Expect Anything Much From Trump –  Shehu Sani

As Donald Trump takes office as the 47th President of the United States, former congressman and human rights crusader Shehu Sani has advised African countries not to anticipate much from his administration.

On Monday, January 20, 2024, Sani tweeted that Trump’s presidency will provide a significant challenge to the world.

The ex-lawmaker argued that America’s connections with the rest of the world would be jeopardised because Trump would want to reset everything, including the European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN), and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

These alterations, according to Sani, would cause discomfort.

He went on to say that the US President would be feared rather than adored, and that both allies and rivals will eventually oppose him.

Sani tweeted: “Mr Trump takes over the American Presidency today. A disruptor takes power. Its going to be a great challenge to the World. Its going to be an American Nationalist and Businessman Vs the World.

He will pull the plug or change the plugs at the UN, EU, NATO and the American relations with the World.

“He will be feared and not loved and will ultimately face resistance by allies and foes. He will try to reset everything and that is where the discomfort will come. Africa should not expect anything much from Trump, even though Biden didn’t do much either. Trump is back and sadly without Mugabe. Trump may be the drug the World needs to wake up or to stay awake. However, the World must not give up or compromise its universal human values.”

Since his re-election two months ago, Trump has been open about some of the changes and ideas he intends to execute.

With his ‘American First’ approach on trade and migration, Trump may reinstate and strengthen the restrictive immigration restrictions of his first term, potentially imposing travel bans on numerous African countries.
