FG Declares Friday, Monday Public Holidays For Easter

The Federal Government has announced that Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, will be observed as public holidays in celebration of this year’s Easter. April 3 marks Good Friday, while April 6 is Easter Monday.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended his congratulations to Christians in Nigeria and across the diaspora.

He encouraged Nigerians to embrace the values associated with the season, stating: “I congratulate all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter. I urge Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance, and love, as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.”

Tunji-Ojo also highlighted the importance of national unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that Easter reminds citizens of the values of tolerance and community that hold the nation together. “Nigerians should remain committed to these ideals for the progress of our country,” he said.

Additionally, the minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to policies that foster national development. “The government’s goal remains to make decisions that promote national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity for all Nigerians,” he added.

He concluded by wishing Christians a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration.
