Ex-Convict Adeleke Granted State Pardon Re-Arrested For Stealing TV In Osun

Omisakin Sunday, one of the convicts recently granted clemency by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, has been remanded in correctional custody for allegedly stealing a plasma television valued at N600,000.

Governor Adeleke had granted clemency to 53 convicts of various offenses late last year, including Omisakin Sunday, who received an outright pardon.

However, Sunday was brought before Magistrate Adeyeba Adekanmi of the Osogbo Magistrate Court on charges of burglary and stealing a plasma television belonging to one Damilare Shittu in the Iludun area of Osogbo.

The charges are punishable under sections 411(1)(2) and 390(9) of the state criminal code.

Sunday pleaded not guilty to the charges, but the prosecutor, Inspector Kayode Adeoye, opposed his bail application, citing the fact that Sunday had been serving a jail term before receiving the Governor’s clemency.

The prosecutor further argued that Sunday’s first action after his pardon was to commit another crime, urging the court to deny bail.

Magistrate Adeyeba ruled against granting bail and ordered that Sunday be remanded in correctional custody until February for further proceedings.
