What Transpired When Yahaya Bello, Usman Ododo Visited Wike In Abuja

Embattled former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello and his successor, Usman Ododo, visited the Abuja residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday.

The meeting between the three politicians, who are from different political parties, has sparked significant online speculation after Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, shared photos of the visit on social media.

While Wike is a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), both Ododo and Bello are affiliated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The exact purpose of the meeting has not been disclosed, but it marks the first time the former Kogi governor has been seen with the FCT minister since his legal troubles began nearly a year ago.

Bello, who served as governor of Kogi from May 2015 to May 2023, has largely remained out of the public eye and away from his former APC colleagues since his legal issues started.

He is currently facing charges of money laundering and fraud in two separate cases in Abuja. In December 2024, he was granted bail from the Kuje Custodial Centre. Along with two others, Bello is accused of diverting N110 billion from Kogi State government funds, with the case currently before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama.

Bello has pleaded not guilty to the 16 charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The case is set to resume on January 29 and 30, and again on February 25 and 27, 2025.

Additionally, Bello faces N80 billion money laundering charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
