On Friday, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, announced that the notorious terrorist leader, Bello Turji, has expressed his readiness to surrender.
Following the recent elimination of his second-in-command and other key associates by the military, General Musa stated that Turji has been forced to abandon most of his subordinates, indicating his willingness to lay down his weapons.

“They (terrorists) are within the communities; the people know them. So, sometimes when they see them, before you get the information, it’s like two hours – the man has moved. So, when the information gets to you, before you move, he has left that area.
“But I can tell you, we have taken out his second in command, we have taken out most of his lieutenants, in fact he is forced now to release most of the people under him. I am telling you that recently he is beginning to say that he doesn’t want anything, he is ready surrender,” General Musa said on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.
Despite Turji’s reported willingness to surrender, the Defence Chief emphasized that anyone responsible for killing innocent citizens should not be shown mercy.
“We want to take everybody out. Anybody who has killed should go, people like him should not be allowed to stay,” General Musa said.
In its ongoing efforts against Turji, the military announced on Wednesday that troops from Operation Fansan Yamma had eliminated his second-in-command, the notorious Aminu Kanawa.
A statement from Defence Director Edward Buba revealed that the troops also inflicted fatal injuries on some of Turji’s close associates, including Dosso (Turji’s younger brother) and Danbokolo (one of his closest allies).
Additionally, the military reported that several of Turji’s key commanders, including Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe, were neutralized.
The statement further indicated that over 24 fleeing terrorists from Turji’s camp, located around Gebe and Isa Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Sokoto State, as well as Gidan Rijiya in Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State, were also eliminated.
