The Nigeria Police Force has submitted a notice of discontinuance in the defamation lawsuit filed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, against Lagos-based lawyer and author, Dele Farotimi.
According to Channels Television, the notice was dated January 29 and was filed under Section 108 (1)(2)(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

The notice seeks to withdraw the charge against Mr. Farotimi at the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti.
Signed by the police prosecutor, Samson Osubu, the notice also revealed that the police would request the court to strike out the charge following the request of the nominal complainant, Are Afe Babalola, to discontinue the case after intervention by concerned Nigerians.
As of the time of this report, the parties involved have gathered at the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti, and the prosecution has served the notice to the defendant’s counsel in court.
However, the judge has not yet convened to formally strike out the charge.
