The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Nwabuoku on nine amended charges of money laundering, involving a total of N868,465,000.

Nwabuoku, who was previously the director of finance and accounts at the Federal Ministry of Defence, faces these charges.

One of the witnesses, Eucharia Ezeobi, a staff member of Zenith Bank, testified that she opened four company accounts—Temeeo Synergy Concept Limited, Turge Global Investment Limited, Laptev Bridge Limited, and Arafura Transnational Afro Limited—for contractors working with the Ministry of Defence.

She explained that large sums of money were withdrawn in cash from these accounts, allegedly benefiting the defendant.

The court accepted the account opening documents as Exhibit PWB.

The second witness, Felix Nweke, the deputy director of accounts and expenditures under Nwabuoku’s supervision, testified that the defendant had directed him to open the four accounts.

Nweke explained that funds were transferred from the Ministry of Defence’s security operations account to the company accounts, and later withdrawn in cash and given to Nwabuoku.

During cross-examination, defence counsel Isidore Udenko asked if the withdrawals were authorized solely by Nwabuoku or if a higher authority was involved.

Nweke affirmed that he followed the defendant’s instructions, as Nwabuoku was his superior in the ministry.

The judge adjourned the trial to February 26 and March 5, 2025, for further proceedings.
