Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the country will enact a “plan B,” which involves retaliatory tariffs, in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 25% duty on all imports from Mexico.
In the same statement, Sheinbaum strongly denied âhaving alliances with criminal organizations,â calling the White House accusation âslander.â
A White House fact sheet on the tariffs said Mexican drug trafficking organizations have an âintolerable allianceâ with the countryâs government, accusing the government of providing a âsafe havenâ to cartels.
âIf there is any such alliance it is in the gun shops of the United States that sell high-powered weapons to these criminal groups,â she added.
Sheinbaum said the two countries should work together âin a comprehensive wayâ to combat âcriminal groups that traffic drugs and generate violence.â
