Nigerian Air Force Takes Action After Personnel Clash With Policemen In Delta

The Nigerian Air Force has confirmed that personnel involved in a recent confrontation with police officers in Warri, Delta State, are currently undergoing disciplinary actions in accordance with military regulations.

A video of the altercation, which emerged on social media on Wednesday, captured the clash between Air Force personnel and police officers.

According to Delta State Police spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, the incident occurred when police officers were transporting a suspect found with illegal substances, including codeine, Indian hemp, and Canadian loud.

Bright explained that at a checkpoint, the Air Force personnel, reportedly familiar with the suspect, intercepted the police officers and demanded the release of the individual.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Nigerian Air Force spokesperson, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, condemned the incident and assured the public that it had been promptly addressed.

“The attention of the Nigerian Air Force has been drawn to a video circulating on social and other media, depicting an altercation between some NAF personnel and police officers in Warri, Delta State, on Tuesday, 11 February 2025.

The NAF wishes to state that the incident has been decisively addressed. The Commander of the concerned NAF unit has engaged with the relevant Police authorities in Delta State to resolve the matter to enhance inter-agency understanding.

“The injured police officers have received the necessary medical attention, while the personnel involved are undergoing disciplinary procedures in accordance with military regulations,” the statement read.

The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its dedication to upholding the highest standards of conduct and promoting strong relationships with other agencies to ensure national security and public safety.

Akinboyewa also assured the public that measures were being implemented to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
