Shipment Of ‘Heavy’ US Bombs Arrives In Israel

Israel’s defense ministry announced on Sunday that a shipment of “heavy” US-made bombs arrived overnight in Israel as Marco Rubio began his first visit to the country as Washington’s top diplomat.

The ministry confirmed in a statement that the shipment of MK-84 munitions, recently authorized by the Trump administration, was received and unloaded overnight.

Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized that the munitions, released by the Trump administration, were a significant asset for the Israeli Air Force and military, showcasing the strong alliance between Israel and the United States.

Earlier in February, the Trump administration approved the sale of over $7.4 billion in bombs, missiles, and related equipment to Israel, aimed at enhancing Israel’s defense capabilities and serving as a deterrent to regional threats, according to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

In October 2023, Israel launched a destructive offensive against Hamas in Gaza in response to an unprecedented attack by the militant group.

The ongoing war has caused widespread devastation in Gaza and displaced much of its population.

A ceasefire, effective since January 19, has allowed for the release of hostages seized by Hamas.

The Biden administration had previously blocked a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel due to concerns about civilian casualties, but Trump reportedly approved them after taking office.

Meanwhile, Rubio, who arrived in Israel on Sunday, is expected to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top officials.

Discussions are likely to focus on the Gaza ceasefire and Trump’s controversial proposal to displace Palestinians from the region and relocate them to Egypt and Jordan.

This plan has sparked global outrage.
