The Ogun State Police Command has declared controversial singer Habeeb Olalomi, also known as Portable, wanted for allegedly leading a violent attack on government officials performing their official duties.
In a statement released on Monday, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, explained that the incident took place on February 5, 2025, around 10:00 a.m., when three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development’s Ota Zonal Office – TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi – were conducting an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.
During the operation, the officials encountered an elderly man, later identified as Portable’s father, at Odogwu Bar, a property linked to the singer.
After introducing themselves and requesting the building’s approved plan, Portable’s father informed them that his son was unavailable.
However, shortly after, Portable arrived, armed with a firearm and other dangerous weapons, leading a group of nine thugs in an assault on the unarmed officials.
The enforcement officers were injured but managed to flee and reported the attack to the Ota Area Command, which escalated the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
While nine of Portable’s associates were arrested, the singer fled and has been in hiding.
Odutola stated that the police had sent several formal invitations to Portable, asking him to appear at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, but he ignored them without providing any legal representation.
As a result, the police obtained a valid court order declaring him wanted.
The police are urging the public to help locate the singer and warned that anyone assisting or harboring him will face legal consequences. Citizens with any information are encouraged to report it to the nearest police station or contact the Ogun State Police Command through official channels.
This development follows the arraignment of nine of Portable’s associates in a Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, two weeks ago, on charges of assaulting officials from the Ota Zonal Planning Office.
The accused – Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26) – were charged with felony, assault, unlawful restriction, possession of weapons, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
They pleaded not guilty.
Police prosecutor Sunday Ekong stated that the defendants, along with Portable (who remains at large), unlawfully assaulted and obstructed three town planning officers while they were performing their duties at Odogwu Bar, and were armed with weapons, creating a public disturbance.
The charges contravene Sections 516, 356(3), 80, 249(d), and 320 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006. Magistrate O.M. Somefun granted each of the defendants bail of N5 million, with sureties in like sum, and set the hearing for March 17, 2025.
The sureties must be licensed bondsmen registered with the Ogun State Government.
