ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike, Shuts University

The Sokoto State University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike starting Wednesday.

The union cited the failure of the university administration, governing council, and state government to address longstanding issues as the reason for the strike.

It vowed strict enforcement, stating that all activities at the institution would be completely shut down.

Following a congress meeting held at the Centre for Caliphate Studies on Wednesday, the union reviewed the government’s response to its demands.

Members expressed dissatisfaction with the authorities’ level of commitment, leading to the immediate suspension of all academic activities, including statutory meetings, examinations, student supervision, marking, and grading of scripts.

“The union has also activated its strike monitoring committee to ensure full compliance with the directive,” the communique issued after the congress stated.

The resolution was signed by ASUU-SSU Chairperson, Dr. Saidu Abubakar, and Secretary, Hassan Aliyu.
