Liverpool Sack Manager Matt Beard

Liverpool have announced that women’s first-team manager, Matt Beard, has left his position with immediate effect.

Beard initially joined LFC Women in 2012, leading the team to consecutive Women’s Super League (WSL) titles in 2013 and 2014 before departing in 2015.

He returned in May 2021 and successfully guided Liverpool back to the top flight ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Despite exceeding expectations by securing a fourth-place finish in the WSL last season, Liverpool have struggled this term, currently sitting seventh after 14 games.

In a statement released on Thursday, a club spokesperson said: “On behalf of the LFC Women Board, Mike Gordon (President, Fenway Sports Group), Billy Hogan (CEO, LFC), and Susan Black (Communications Director, LFC), we extend our gratitude to Matt for his invaluable contribution.

“We have shared some incredible moments with Matt as manager of LFC Women, and we deeply appreciate his impact. Our primary goal was to restore the team to its rightful place, which we accomplished together in 2022 by securing promotion to the WSL.

“To continue building on this momentum, we believe this difficult decision offers the best path toward future success.

“The search for a new LFC Women’s manager is underway, with Amber Whiteley stepping in as interim manager effective immediately.”
