Chief Bode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against allowing despotic and unpatriotic individuals to undermine Nigeria’s democracy.
In an open letter titled “From Osun to Lagos and Rivers: Darkness Looms,” George expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s growing international embarrassment due to political crises that lack logic and threaten the democratic system.
He criticized the recent crisis in Osun State, which led to violence and deaths, describing it as both irrational and callous.
“We are now in a situation where some people manipulate the law to serve their selfish interests. The Osun crisis was straightforward, but federal officials made it more complicated with unnecessary legal maneuvers,” George remarked.

He warned that such manipulation of the law presents a grave threat to democracy, urging political leaders to act with decorum rather than desperation.
Commenting on the political turmoil in Lagos State, George termed the impeachment and subsequent reinstatement of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa as a disgraceful spectacle.
“Thirty-six out of 40 lawmakers voted to impeach Obasa on January 13, yet internal forces turned the Assembly into a battleground. His return as Speaker is not only shocking but also a national embarrassment. The presidency is complicit in this,” George stated.
He condemned the external interference fueling the crisis, questioning why Nigeria’s democracy should be ridiculed globally.

George also expressed concern about the political and economic crisis in Rivers State, condemning a recent judgment that has negatively impacted governance and federal allocation, leaving the people suffering.
“What kind of judgment subjects the citizens to such hardship—no federal allocation, no salaries, no infrastructure, no food, no hope?” he asked.
He warned that if the situation remains unresolved, it could lead to destructive actions like oil pipeline vandalism, severely damaging Nigeria’s revenue.
George urged President Tinubu and APC leaders to reassess their governance approach, cautioning that the current erosion of democracy and the rule of law is exacerbating electoral fraud, insecurity, and political instability.
He pointed to vote-buying in the Edo and Ondo governorship elections as evidence of a deteriorating system, lamenting the rising prevalence of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping while the government focuses on political struggles.
“Rather than addressing these crises, APC members are sowing division across the country. It is time to say enough is enough,” he added.
George warned that deliberately destabilizing Lagos and Rivers—two of Nigeria’s largest electoral states—could have severe long-term consequences for the country’s future.
“Goodness is an investment that never fails. Those in power must understand that their actions have consequences. Where there is love, perfection is not necessary.”
He concluded by wishing the people of Nigeria well and urging the government to restore order before it is too late.
