Senate Suspends Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan For Six Months

The Senate has imposed a six-month suspension on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan due to her ongoing dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“That the Senate do suspend Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months for her total violation of the Senate Standing Rules (2023 as amended for bringing the presiding officer and the entire Nigerian Senate to public opprobrium,” Senate President Godswill Akpabio said while reading out the recommendations of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct.

Despite attempts by some senators to shorten the suspension to three months, the Senate upheld the original six-month suspension through a majority vote.

However, the lawmakers stated that the suspension could be lifted or shortened if Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan submits a written apology.

After the suspension was announced, the Kogi Central lawmaker was escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant-At-Arms. Before leaving, she declared, “This injustice will not be tolerated.”
