EFCC Detains Ex-Minister Kennedy-Ohanenye For Alleged Fraud

Former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, spent her first night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday.

EFCC operatives questioned Ohanenye regarding her alleged involvement in the misappropriation, violation of procurement processes, and diversion of public funds totaling ₦138,413,253.89, which occurred during the disbursement of the 2023 budget allocation for the ministry.

A high-ranking source within the commission revealed that Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters around 11 a.m. on Thursday and was immediately interrogated by operatives about her suspected role in the financial misconduct.

According to the source, EFCC investigations have uncovered that funds meant for the P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative were diverted for personal enrichment.

Ohanenye was among five ministers dismissed following the 19th Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House in October 2024.

President Bola Tinubu subsequently appointed Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, the former Minister of State for Police Affairs, as the new Minister for Women Affairs.
