Peterside Reacts To Natasha’s Suspension

Atedo Peterside, founder of Anap Foundation, has criticized the Senate for suspending Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, calling the action disrespectful to her constituents.

In a post on X on Sunday, the founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc expressed his concern over the suspension, labeling it troubling.

“The most disturbing part of the Nigerian Senate’s actions concerning Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is that the Senate leadership must know her six-month suspension is not only illegal but also disrespectful to her constituents in Kogi State, yet they seem indifferent,” Peterside remarked, adding that he supports the female lawmaker during this challenging time.

The long-standing conflict between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan escalated on March 6, 2025, when the Senate suspended the Kogi Central Senator, who had accused the Senate President of sexual harassment and abuse of office after a disagreement over seat arrangements on February 20, 2025.

Akpabio has denied the allegations.

In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan filed a N100 billion defamation suit against Akpabio and was referred to the Senate disciplinary committee.

The Kogi senator later secured a court order from the Federal High Court in Abuja, restraining the Senate committee from proceeding with the disciplinary action, with the case set for a hearing on March 10, 2025.

On March 5, 2025, the Senate committee dismissed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petition against Akpabio, labeling it “dead on arrival” due to procedural issues and legal limitations, though the senator resubmitted her petition the following day.

This row was not the first between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan. In July 2024, Akpabio had issued an apology to the female senator over comments he made about her at a nightclub.
