Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has called on the state House of Assembly to prioritize peace and the state’s interests in accordance with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
Fubara made this appeal on Thursday during the inauguration of the newly remodeled Okrika Grammar School in Okrika Local Government Area, Port Harcourt.
He emphasized that at this critical point in the state’s political crisis, all stakeholders must embrace peace.
“The Supreme Court has made its judgment, and we have no choice but to abide by it,” he said.

He also urged the Rivers State House of Assembly, a key party in the Supreme Court’s decision, to comply with the ruling and act in a manner that prioritizes the state’s welfare.
Fubara stressed that fostering peace would be essential for collective progress and sustainable development in the state.
He pointed out that without lasting peace, the state’s stability, security, and well-being would suffer, hindering the pursuit of developmental goals.
“By the special grace of God, we have started the process, and we are appealing to all parties to consider the best interests of Rivers State,” Fubara added. He also reiterated his commitment to peace, saying, “The only thing we owe this state is peace and development.”
Addressing the Okrika Grammar School project, Fubara recounted how the Diocese of Okrika Anglican Communion’s planning committee visited his office, requesting that the dilapidated school be renovated.
He explained that, considering the school’s historical significance and the importance of quality education, his administration decided to uplift its standard.
He assured that any remaining work within the approved scope would be completed, including addressing concerns about shore protection raised by the Bishop of Okrika.
Fubara also urged the school’s alumni to take on strategic projects, such as establishing a computer-based exam center for external exams.

Dr. Ovy Chukwuma, the State Commissioner for Education, highlighted the extensive remodeling of Okrika Grammar School, which included the construction of new facilities such as classroom blocks, laboratories, hostels, an assembly hall, and a library, among others.
The project, funded by the government, also included road networks, drainage, water supply, and solar-powered streetlights.
Obianime Appollos, the Head of Local Government Administration for Okrika LGA, praised the restoration of the school, noting its historical significance as an academic institution since 1940.
Golden Iruayenama, representing the Old Boys Association, thanked Governor Fubara for addressing the school’s years of neglect and dilapidation, a commitment that had been previously unmet by other leaders.
Bishop Enoch Atuboyedia of the Diocese of Okrika Anglican Communion expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for the restoration of the school, highlighting the significance of the project after 85 years of the institution’s existence.
