Nigerian Government Planning To Arrest Me – Natasha Raises Alarm

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan claims that Nigerian security officials are planning to arrest her when she returns to Nigeria.

She believes this is in response to her attendance at the IPU meeting in New York, where she spoke about her Senate suspension and accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.

She made these allegations in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES.

“I’m aware there are plans underway to have me arrested as soon as I arrive Abuja,” Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is still in the US after the IPU meeting, said.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has alleged that Nigerian security agencies are planning to arrest her upon her return to Nigeria, though she did not specify which agencies.

She believes this is connected to her participation in the IPU meeting in New York on March 11th, where she discussed her Senate suspension and made accusations against Senate President Akpabio.

At the IPU meeting, she claimed her suspension was politically motivated and sought international intervention.

In response, the IPU President promised an investigation and an opportunity for the Nigerian Senate to present its perspective.

However, Nigerian delegate Kafilat Ogbara refuted Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims, reading a letter from Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele stating that the suspension was due to violations of Senate rules, not retaliation.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also alleged that, following her speech, the Senate President sent officials to forcibly remove her from the UN premises.

“The Senate President Akpabio sent three staff headed by the Chargè D’Affairs of the Nigerian embassy in New York to evacuate me from the United Nations premises right after my speech. I was rescued by parliamentarians from other countries and the security,” she alleged.
