A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Wednesday ordered the remand of Nollywood actress Doris Ogala at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the hearing and determination of her bail application over alleged cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and attempted extortion of Pastor Chris Okafor.

Ogala was docked on a three-count charge instituted by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation before Justice Akintayo Aluko, centered on allegations of publishing intimate images, circulating false digital messages, and making extortionate threats against the clergyman.

Prosecuting counsel Tolulope Mokolu told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offenses between September 2024 and March 2026.

Mokolu stated that Ogala knowingly and intentionally shared nude and intimate photographs of Okafor on her social media handles without his consent, causing severe public embarrassment, emotional distress, and reputational damage across online blog networks.

The prosecution further accused the actress of publishing recordings, videos, and electronic broadcasts containing details she knew to be false, aimed at intimidating, harassing, and bullying the cleric.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant transmitted electronic communications threatening to publish additional damaging and intimate media unless Okafor paid her monetary compensation or purchased a house for her, thereby exposing him to public ridicule.

Mokolu highlighted that the alleged acts violated Sections 24(1)(a), 24(2)(a), and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

However, Ogala pleaded not guilty to all three counts when the charges were formally read in court.

Following her plea, Mokolu requested a trial date and prayed for her remand, noting that he was only served with the defense’s bail motion on Wednesday and required time to formulate a formal counter-response.

Countering the remand prayer, defense attorney N. C. Atulomah urged the judge to exercise discretion and grant her release, noting that Ogala was a governorship candidate in Abia State and promising to produce her at subsequent proceedings.

The prosecutor objected, reiterating that the state remained within its statutory period to respond to the bail filing.

Delivering his ruling, Justice Aluko held that the defense failed to present sufficient legal grounds to warrant her immediate release prior to hearing the main bail application.

The judge consequently ordered an expedited hearing for the bail application and adjourned proceedings until October 30, 2026.

Justice Aluko ruled that Ogala remain remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until the court hears and decides her bail application on October 30, 2026.
