The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly opposed the attempt to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Odu, from office.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, PDP Chairman in Rivers State, Chief Nname Ewor, condemned the move, expressing the party’s disapproval.
Ewor criticized the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly for fueling political tensions with the impeachment bid instead of working towards peace.
He further stated that the lawmakers’ effort to unseat Fubara was not in line with the Supreme Court’s directive to resolve the state’s political crisis.

“The lawmakers cannot, at this moment, contemplate impeachment when Governor Fubara and his team are busy implementing the Supreme Court judgement.
“We wonder what exactly Amawhule and 26 other lawmakers want from the governor, the government, and the people of Rivers State.
“The court has granted them everything they requested, including reliefs they did not even seek,” Mr Ewor said.
He urged Governor Fubara to stay focused and not be swayed by the gross misconduct notice, but instead to continue enforcing the Supreme Court’s directives.
The chairman also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to step in and bring the key figures in the crisis to order to prevent the situation from escalating further.
“The war against Rivers State is state-sponsored, and we urge President Tinubu to advise his appointees to stop weaponising federal agencies, including the judiciary.
“There is already enough insecurity in the country, and there is no point creating a new one in a peaceful Rivers State,” he said.

Mr. Ewor cautioned that the continued withholding of federal revenue allocations to Rivers State could result in chaos.
He emphasized that blocking the state’s funds would hinder the payment of salaries and entitlements to civil servants and pensioners, while also crippling the government’s capacity to fulfill its financial responsibilities.
“President Tinubu should remember that laws are made for men, not men for laws.
“Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, we call on the President to use his executive powers to ensure that the Rivers State’s revenue allocation is released,” the PDP chairman said.
He referenced a recent case in the United States, where the Supreme Court banned TikTok, but President Donald Trump intervened using his executive powers to override the decision.
Mr. Ewor urged President Tinubu to take a similar approach in this situation.
Additionally, he called on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his allied lawmakers to prioritize peace and cease hostilities against the Rivers State Government.
“They should accept the re-presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill by Gov. Fubara on March 19, and withdraw their impeachment notice against the governor and his deputy.
“The impeachment notice is not part of the Supreme Court’s ruling, and the plot will not bring progress to Rivers State,” Mr Ewor said.
