Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director General of the NYSC, confirmed that the new N77,000 monthly allowance for corps members will begin in March 2025.
This assurance was given during an interaction with corps members in Abuja, where he reiterated the NYSC and Federal Government’s dedication to their welfare.
This follows the NYSC’s announcement of the allowance increase from N33,000 to N77,000, aligning with the new N70,000 minimum wage approved by President Tinubu in July 2024.

The approval was formalized in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, in accordance with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
General Nafiu emphasized the importance of corps members’ well-being and urged them to remain calm, dedicated, focused, and disciplined.
He assured them that the allowance would be paid retroactively from March.
He also praised the NYSC’s role in promoting national unity and assured that the NYSC management would continue to instill key values in corps members.
Corps member Zaka Deborah Alheri expressed gratitude for the Director General’s commitment to the timely payment of the increased allowance.
