A contentious scene unfolded in the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday during a hearing concerning a petition filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, featuring a verbal clash between former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili and Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi.
The confrontation occurred during a session of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, where Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio was being addressed.
Ezekwesili attended the hearing alongside Abiola Akiode, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel, and petitioner Zubairu Yakubu.

The dispute began when Yakubu attempted to speak while Committee Chairman Senator Neda Imasuen was addressing the panel.
When Yakubu was asked to mute his microphone, Ezekwesili intervened.
This prompted an interruption from Senator Nwebonyi, a witness for Akpabio, leading to a heated exchange with the former minister.
Ezekwesili’s attempt to calm the lawmaker was met with an angry response from Senator Nwebonyi, who accused her of disrespect.
The heated exchange disrupted the proceedings until order was restored.
Senator Imasuen then adjourned the hearing, citing the fact the case was also before a court of law.
“Therefore, this matter is closed here at the senate, and it is adjourned sine die,” he said.
