A new controversy has emerged surrounding the imprisonment of well-known crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
A traditional leader in Lagos, the Baale of Kirikiri Town, Chief Babalola Shabi, has accused officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service of assisting Bobrisky in an alleged bribery scheme to obtain VIP treatment while incarcerated.
Chief Shabi, also known as “Baale No-Nonsense,” claimed that Bobrisky illicitly brought eight ATM cards into the Kirikiri correctional facility and used them to transfer a total of N35 million through POS operators in the vicinity.
This money, according to Shabi, was intended as bribes for prison officials to secure preferential treatment.
Shabi revealed this information during a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos State Police Command on Saturday as part of the National Police Week activities.

He alleged that the crossdresser did not fully serve his sentence within the prison walls but was instead accommodated in a private residence outside the custodial center, supposedly facilitated by corrupt correctional officers.
He said, “Before the truth came out, everyone believed he was in Kirikiri serving his time. But the reality is that Bobrisky was living comfortably outside the prison walls, thanks to a criminal collaboration involving some officials.”
Chief Shabi claimed that he was the one who uncovered the alleged scandal.
He stated that he summoned all the Point of Sale (POS) operators in the Kirikiri community to his palace, after which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) intervened to investigate the matter.
“I personally called in the EFCC after I summoned the POS operators to my palace. From there, they were able to trace the transactions and decode the money trail,” he said.
The traditional ruler detailed that the alleged illicit arrangement involved correctional officers contacting Point of Sale (POS) vendors to withdraw money from the crossdresser’s ATM cards.
He suggested that the ease with which the funds were obtained pointed to a coordinated network of individuals working together.
“It was shocking how N35 million could be sourced from around here so quickly. Clearly, this was not a one-man job. The officials who aided him have been suspended,” Shabi added.
Chief Shabi also revealed that the property where Bobrisky was supposedly held during his imprisonment has been located and demolished.
He added that both the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have questioned him regarding this situation.
“The DSS first invited me for questioning, and I told them everything I knew. The EFCC also reached out, and I gave them my full cooperation. As a community leader, I cannot allow this type of impunity to go unchecked,” he said.
Chief Shabi’s account differs from the findings of a National Assembly panel, which had previously reported that while Bobrisky received special treatment, he was confined within the prison’s facilities during his sentence.
The crossdresser was sentenced to six months in prison in 2024 for naira abuse and was released in August of the same year.
However, social critic Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, had previously shared an alleged voice recording of Bobrisky claiming to have paid N15 million to some Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials to drop a money laundering charge against him.
In the audio, Bobrisky also purportedly claimed that a “godfather,” along with staff from the Nigerian Correctional Service, ensured he served his six-month sentence in a private apartment rather than in the general prison population.
