Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed his condolences on the passing of Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State and a distinguished mathematician.
Obasanjo characterized Olunloyo as a patriotic Nigerian who consistently championed justice, peace, and national progress throughout his life.
In a statement released on Sunday by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo highlighted Olunloyo’s unwavering patriotism.
He also expressed concern over the diminishing number of experienced national leaders, particularly at a time when their wisdom and experience are greatly needed.

“It was shocking and worrisome because we had lost Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Chief Edwin Clark, and now Dr. Olunloyo just in weeks succession.
“Indeed, the ranks of the nation’s leadership is fast depleting by the loss of our dedicated and resourceful patriots who served the nation in various capacities, particularly at this crucial state in our nation’s history when their wise counsel and rich experience are greatly needed,” the statement said.
Obasanjo extended his sympathies to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the government, and the people of Oyo State.
He offered them comfort by emphasizing that Olunloyo led a life that served as a positive example for the community and that his impact was deeply felt, resulting in widespread mourning.
“We pray the Good Lord to grant the soul of Dr Olunloyo a peaceful rest and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
Dr. Omololu Olunloyo held significant public service positions, beginning as a commissioner in the old Western Region at the age of 27.
He later served as the governor of Oyo State from October 1st to December 31st, 1983, a tenure that was cut short by the military coup led by General Muhammadu Buhari, which ended the Second Republic. He also held the esteemed traditional title of Balogun of Oyo Kingdom.
