Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced that a strong coalition is being formed to remove President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in the 2027 general elections.
Atiku, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in 2023, made this statement on Wednesday during a meeting with a delegation of National Opinion Leaders who visited him in Abuja.
“A number of us, leaders from the APC, PDP, Labour, and others, have come together to say we are going to take a new path—a new pathway to a new Nigeria,” he stated.

Atiku Abubakar emphasized that the coalition’s objective extends beyond simply winning elections, aiming to deliver effective governance that benefits all Nigerians.
He also likened the coalition to a rapidly moving train, “with multiple stops to bring on board Nigerians of all shades,” in the pursuit of good governance.
“Whatever vehicle that will give us good governance in the future of our children and grandchildren, that is the vehicle we are going to ride on,” Atiku stated.

Atiku Abubakar’s statement follows the PDP governors’ recent declaration that the party is a desirable entity to be courted, rather than one actively seeking merger partners.
