The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has announced the revocation of licenses for 574 schools found guilty of examination malpractice.
According to WAEC’s Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, these schools are barred from conducting any WAEC examinations, including the upcoming 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which is scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Thursday, Dangut stated that the list of these affected schools has been shared with the federal government.

He emphasized that this withdrawal of recognition as examination centers will apply to all examining bodies.
The 2025 WASSCE will take place from Thursday, April 24 to Friday, June 20, 2025, with a total of 1,973,253 candidates registered from 23,554 schools.
Dangut noted that there was an increase of 158,627 candidates compared to the previous year, with 979,228 male and 994,025 female candidates.
He highlighted WAEC’s increasing use of technology, including the introduction of the first Computer-based WASSCE (CB-WASSCE) for school candidates in 2025.
Dangut also revealed a new measure to maintain academic and moral integrity: candidates sitting for the examination will not have identical questions for each number.
This innovation has been adopted for some WASSCE subjects as part of a broader shift towards modern test administration techniques.
While acknowledging concerns about insecurity, Dangut assured that WAEC will continue to collaborate with the police in various states to ensure adequate security for the smooth and successful conduct of the examinations.
