Court Orders EFCC To Release Aisha Achimugu Within 24 Hours

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has instructed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release socialite and businesswoman Aisha Achimugu within the next 24 hours.

Justice Ekwo also directed that both parties involved in the case must report back to the court on May 2nd to provide an update on the compliance with his order.

It’s worth recalling that on Monday, Justice Ekwo had ordered Achimugu to present herself to the EFCC for an ongoing investigation related to money laundering and other offenses.

Following her appearance at the EFCC office, the agency was also instructed to bring her before the court on Wednesday, April 30th, for a progress report.

However, the EFCC arrested Achimugu at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 5 am on Tuesday.

The EFCC is currently investigating Achimugu for alleged conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretenses, money laundering, corruption, and possession of properties suspected to have been unlawfully acquired.

While Achimugu had previously been arrested and interrogated by the EFCC, she was subsequently released on administrative bail.

The EFCC, however, alleges that she later absconded, leading to her being declared wanted.
