Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has hinted at a possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is like a “spoilt plane” that may not be able to transport him to his next political destination in 2027.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency, Eno alluded to the recent wave of defections from the PDP, including that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and implied that the heavily divided PDP might soon collapse.

Eno suggested that he might join the APC as the 2027 election approaches. “If you wanted to travel with Ibom Airline, and on the verge of taking off, it developed a fault that won’t enable it to fly, won’t you board the next available plane to take you to your destination?” he asked the crowd.
However, he also urged his supporters to remain steadfast in their support for his administration and its efforts to fulfill campaign promises.
During the meeting, he distributed empowerment grants, cars, and other items to over 400 people.
He emphasized the importance of regular communication with the people, not just during elections, and outlined his administration’s plans and achievements.
“We need to meet with the people from time to time to see them. It’s not only during elections that we should come to see our people. We also have to come and see you in the course of governance, to check your wellbeing, to listen to you, tell you what we have done, and what we are planning to do,” he stated.
He also said that the information gathered from the town hall meetings would be used to inform the 2026 budget, and that his administration would always work with and for the people.
