PDP Takes Fresh Decision After Oborevwori, Others Defection

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to pursue legal action against Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other prominent members who recently switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following a six-hour closed-door meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, the PDP leadership instructed its National Legal Adviser to begin the process of reclaiming what it considers the party’s stolen mandate in Delta State.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the party directed its legal counsel to initiate legal proceedings to recover its mandate from the defected governor and other former party members in the state.

To stabilize its structure in Delta State, the PDP leadership appointed Emma Ogidi, the party’s South-South Zonal Chairman, to oversee affairs and lead reorganization efforts in the state.

The Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, stated that the party has instructed the national legal adviser to recover their “taken away” mandate, asserting that the party’s fortunes cannot be left in the hands of adversaries.

He also announced the dissolution of existing party structures in Delta State and the appointment of a zonal caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs there.

In addition to addressing the defections, the NWC also adopted key recommendations from the PDP Governors’ Forum.

The committee scheduled the party’s next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for May 27th and the PDP National Convention to take place from August 28th to 30th, 2025.
