Controversial hip-hop artist Portable, real name Habeeb Okikiola, escaped a three-month prison sentence by paying the N30,000 fine imposed by the court.
Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo, presiding over the court in Ifo, Ogun State, had sentenced Portable on Tuesday to three months’ imprisonment with the option of a N30,000 fine for assault.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Olumide Awoleke had informed the court that Portable committed the offense of assault on November 18, 2022, in Okeosa, Ilogbo.

The charges against Portable included conspiracy to commit assault, unlawful assault on Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi, and theft of musical equipment.
Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo found Portable guilty on the first two counts.
He was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with a N10,000 fine for conspiracy to commit assault and two months’ imprisonment with a N20,000 fine for unlawful assault.
Portable had previously been arraigned in April 2023 on similar charges and was granted bail.
However, he was recently brought back to court after failing to appear for some time and was remanded in a correctional facility before the judgment was delivered on Tuesday.
