Social media personality VeryDarkMan (VDM), whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being initially arrested by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) in Abuja on Friday.
His arrest by the police reportedly followed his public criticism of GTBank concerning alleged unauthorized transactions from his mother’s account, a matter for which he had been vocally demanding accountability online.
His lawyer, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the initial police arrest on Twitter, stating it was “absolutely unacceptable” and that “demanding accountability is not a crime.”

He also noted that VDM was arrested with a friend known as C Park, while his mother was left alone.
In a subsequent update on X, Adeyanju stated that VDM and his friend were now in EFCC custody.
He further alleged that VDM refused to leave his cell and that GTBank had locked him and his friend inside an exit door for over five minutes to facilitate their arrest by the EFCC.
Adeyanju announced that legal action would be taken against GTBank for this “inhumane treatment.”
As of the time of this report, neither the police nor the EFCC have issued an official statement regarding VDM’s detention, and it is unknown if any formal charges have been filed.
