On Friday, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, led a delegation of the commission’s leadership on a condolence visit to the family of their late National Commissioner, Major General Modibbo Alkali (Rtd), who passed away on Monday, April 28.
According to a statement via INEC’s X account, the Chairman was accompanied by other National Commissioners, Directors, the Secretary to the Commission, and senior aides to pay their respects at the family’s residence in Kaduna.
The visit was to honor Alkali, described by the commission as a dedicated and hardworking member.

The post highlighted Alkali’s role as Chairman of the Appointment, Promotion and Discipline Committee, which was crucial in shaping electoral personnel management and enhancing election security strategies.
INEC noted that Alkali played a significant role in their strategic planning for electoral security and was vital in ensuring the safe deployment of staff and materials, especially in high-risk areas during elections.
The delegation offered prayers for the peaceful rest of the late General’s soul and conveyed their condolences to his bereaved family.
Alkali is survived by his wives, children, and grandchildren and has been laid to rest according to Islamic traditions.
