Reps Summon Benue, Zamfara Governors, States’ Assembly Speakers

The House of Representatives committee on Public Petitions has directed the Governors of Zamfara and Benue states, along with the Speakers of their respective State Houses of Assembly, to appear before the committee on Thursday, May 8.

The committee wants them to explain why the House of Representatives should not assume their functions.

This directive was announced in a statement released on Friday by the committee’s media head, Chooks Oko.

The statement explained that the summons follows a petition submitted by a civil rights organization, Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law, which requested the House to take over the legislative duties of the Zamfara and Benue State Assemblies.

The summons, personally signed by the Committee Chairman, Mike Etaba, indicated that the invited parties are already aware of the details of the case.

He emphasized the committee’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and stated that the invited officials have an opportunity to present their cases clearly for public understanding.

He also affirmed that anarchy would not be tolerated in Nigeria’s political system.
