Why We Arrested VeryDarkMan – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), stating it was due to multiple petitions filed against him.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed to BBC News Pidgin on Monday that the activist was detained in response to complaints from several individuals who had filed petitions.

“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” Oyewale explained.

When questioned about a possible connection to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Oyewale clarified that the petitions originated from various individuals, and the agency has a responsibility to protect them.

Oyewale also indicated that the commission intends to bring the social media activist before a court.

He stated, “We will release him when he meets the bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible; we are law-abiding.”
